Fabric Haul – Feb 2017

5 Comments on Fabric Haul – Feb 2017

Since I got back into sewing I wanted to try out ordering fabric online. It seems to be a cheaper option these days.

I was initially nervous about this as I prefer to feel fabric before purchasing. I’m a feeler kinda gal. 😂

I did my research though and found out the fabrics that I do like and the different names etc. My thoughts on this would be to get the cheapest the first go round so if it’s not the best I could chalk it down to lesson learnt!

I tried 2 sites:

  1. UK Fabrics Online – Visit them here…

  2. Fabric Land UK – Visit them here…

From UK Fabrics Online I got:

2 Meters of Polycotton in Black / White
2 Meters of Polycotton Polka Dot in Royal Blue
2 meters of Wallace Modern Tartan in Red / Black

On a site I have been looking at loads for sewing… With Wendy!!!, she recommended 2 meters covers pretty much everything… Hence all the 2’s 🙂

From the above, I love all the patterns. They are what they pictured on the website and no nasty surprises. I did get polycotton wrong, I thought this would be more starchy and not as stiff. That’s my bad though… Good to know for my next order. Those fabrics will not go to waste mind you, lots of ideas for them, esp with the summer months coming in.

Great value to, for all this I had change out of £25 including shipping. Hoping to make at least 5 items with them…. Keep an eye out for these in coming posts….

From the Fabric Land UK I got the below fabrics and also some other bits and bobs:

2 meters of Jersey Knit in polka dot

You may notice this fabrics from my previous post 😂 All About The Face….

Cotton Knit Spring Jersey in Black (Photo doesn’t show how black it is…)
Elastic for skirt bands, in black and white
Silver Snap Fasteners
Hooks & Eyes
Black Zippers

From these the polka dot is my favourite as it is super soft! These jerseys were a bit more in price but you can see why. They are a much nicer material in feel and weight, perfect for a make that calls for a bit more luxury.

For the second order, these came to £32 including delivery. I think quite reasonable when you see it all laid out. This site had more extras to order, not just fabric, hence all the zips etc.

The packaging was also good from both shops, all wrapped up nice and secure.

Over all I’m delighted with both sets of purchases. The cotton is my least favourite but I know I can definitely use it on a number of things! Majorly helps the patterns are sweet.

I will be purchasing from these two sites again and keeping an eye on their sale sections going forward!

Once I get going on these fabrics I’ll keep you posted on what they become!!

If there is another site I need to be looking at do let me know! Online ordering is defiantly the way forward for me as it does work out cheaper where I’m based.

Also, any patterns you think would work well with these fabrics, do get in touch!!

Lots of Love

Mrs S.
