Live in such a way that if someone spoke badly of you, no one would believe it – Unknown
Welcome to the Blogging Interviews on Mrs. S London. Reaching out to Bloggers to get their views on all things blogging. From Why they blog, their favourite plugin’s, who takes their photos and what bugs them most about our community.
This week I would like to introduce you to Chanelle Hayley. A beauty and lifestyle blogger from New Zealand! Chanelle is coming up on her 4 year anniversary of blogging. What a milestone!
Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
My name is Chanelle and I’m a 22 (almost 23) year old beauty and lifestyle blogger from New Zealand. I have been blogging since 2014 and I love having a space to call my own and somewhere to share my musings.
Describe how did you first get into blogging?
I started my blog after I had finished studying and when I was job searching as a way to keep me busy during that time. Originally I was in awe of Filofax users and their planners and blogs all about their planning routines. I didn’t know then beauty would be where I sit most comfortably, I used to post off the cuff about whatever came to mind.
How do you manage time for your blog and how efficient do you think it is?
At the beginning of each month I try to sit down and plan out posts for the month ahead. I currently post twice a week and like to have at least a week’s worth of posts written in advance. I have a blog planner which contains each month’s posts, dates, titles etc. I have room to write little notes on the adjacent page too if need be. I am very good at time management, I love being organised.
What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog?
I’m still trying to figure this one out! 😜
What are your blog plans for the next year?
My blog will be 4 years old in 2018, crazy!!! I’m planning a giveaway for when I reach 1,000 followers which will hopefully be sometime soon and I’m toying with changing my posting schedule and going back to posting three days a week like I used to. I’d also like to improve my photography, I purchased a DSLR camera in July 2017 and I want to master how to take nice blog photos.
Who has impacted you most in blogging and how?
I don’t have a particular blogging inspiration but I am constantly inspired by other bloggers. I like to be individual and post what I’d like to read but there are posts from fellow bloggers that do spark ideas for sure.
Who are your top 3 favourite bloggers and explain why?
A Beautiful Thing – Dannii is so lovely and her posts are always fun and jam packed with photos! She is a very loyal reader of my blog and always leaves the sweetest comments.
Stash Matters – Stashy is a Canadian blogger who is organised like no other! She keeps a makeup inventory spreadsheet and her beauty reviews are always so detailed and in depth.
Helpless Whilst Drying – Rachael is very consistent with her posts and they aren’t always the typical topics and products. Her photos are beautiful and I wish I had her skills with the camera.
What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?
Photography. You try to plan your photos but then the weather will get in the way, you’ll forget to photograph a product so you have to start again or you just can’t get the right shot.
Also, running out of post ideas. You can feel stuck in a rut and you’re not inspired and don’t feel like posting. But that’s okay. Take a break if you need to, your blog will still be there in a week, a month or whenever you’re ready.
Did you have any professional help or did you create the blog yourself?
I created the blog by myself. I am not self-hosted as I don’t intend to gain income from my blog so the free plan offered by WordPress is enough for me. Everything works great and I don’t have to worry about site issues and techie stuff so it’s nice and easy.
Which is your favourite social media platform to use alongside your blog?
I don’t promote my blog posts much on social media. My favourite social media platform is Twitter purely because of the interactions I have had with my favourite celebrities and those are moments that I will remember for a long time. I’ve got a special folder with screenshots of my tweets and everything!
Who takes the majority of your photos?
I take them all myself. Occasionally there is a post which uses stock photos, I use a couple of free sites to find them.
A huge thank you to Chanelle for taking part! I hope you enjoyed getting to know her and her blog a little more! Have you seen Chanelle’s Blog?
