Blog Consultation – How I Did It and the Outcome

‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.’ Henry Ford

A few weeks ago I mentioned I was looking into a Blog Consultation. I have finally bit the bullet and done it!

I looked around, checked out a good few reviews and in the end I went with Emma from Hello Foxy.

Why Emma??

  1. I love her blog and it’s always one I keep an eye on to see how she’s doing and more importantly how she’s doing it.
  2. I have been following her for a while and trust her judgment.
  3. Emma was very reasonably priced!

How I Did It

  1. Before payment you can in touch with her and asked her for more information on the process. She kindly sent me the 6 page form she asks her clients to complete for the task. She was professional and soothing, I immediately felt in good hands.
  2. The form consisted of 6 pages…. Sectioned out and covering goals, social media info, traffic, views, ideal readership, your blog strategies, what you want from the consultation, and a hell of a lot more!
  3. Once payment had been made I sent the completed form over and waited…. patiently.
  4. Less than 5 days later, a PDF hit my inbox. 22 FULL PAGES LONG! Boy did she cover everything. I’m not sure what I had been expecting but that much content was way more than I ever hoped for.

The Review

  1. 22 pages, at first glance seemed like I had a crap load of work ahead of me. Could my blog really be that bad?? Don’t worry, it wasn’t all bad stuff like I imagined it could be. It was all extremely useful info that only a second pair of educated eyes could have pointed out.
  2. Emma was amazing in how she critiqued my blog. She pointed out what was right and what could use more help. All done in the most lovely language so that even when I knew she could have been harsher, she delivered the news in a nice effective way.
  3. Each section of the original form was laid out and discussed in great detail. Each section was given ample attention and insight. There wasn’t anything NOT covered!
  4. Before it arrived I was terrified it would all be gut wrenching, it is my baby after all. Emma handled Mrs S. with silk gloves and it felt she was just as invested in the blog as I am.

The Outcome

  1. Here’s the tough part… with so much to go over, I need to take a few days off from posting to regroup, rethink and implement the changes needed to improve Mrs. S.
  2. I will be focusing on all the amazing things Emma has shown me and the tips she has given me to make the blog better!

The main thing I have learned from this is that it was money well spent. Blogging is a hobby that I hope to continue doing and one day maybe earn a bit of cash from. Without investment, it will be so much slower / harder. Like taking a road trip without the sat nav. If you think about it, himself plays golf as a hobby, he needs to buy clubs to do it and purchase lessons if he can’t fix something. It’s the same thing for me!

So, over the next week or so I will be “under construction”. Please don’t be upset with me, I hope to come back better and stronger than before!

  1. Wow thank you so much for this lovely review Hazel!
I’m glad you were satisfied with my work, and I’m looking forward to seeing how your blog will evolve & grow in the next weeks and months! ♥︎

    1. Thank you so much for all your help, you have been an absolute star!! Looking forward to all the changes coming soon!! I couldn’t recommend you more! x

  2. This is so interesting! Good for you for biting the bullet! I never even knew Blog Consultation was a thing! I can imagine it is very useful. I know I am constantly looking at my blog thinking is this right, does that work etc. It would be great to have fresh eyes look at it. Thanks for sharing, certainly given me food for thought xxx

    1. Hey!!! Ye I found it a few months ago and stewed on it for a while. Prices where the main factor for me, not wanting to shell out! Im so glad I finally did though. It was so nice to see what someone else thought and have a independant opinion. Blogging is quite lonesome and you never know what your nailing and what your failing! I’m taking some time to go through it in full and give it my full attention. I don’t wanna waste it ya get me?! xx

    2. Thanks!! I was pretty chuffed with myself! Sitting there hitting pay thinking I’ve got this hahahaha! Be careful, some are total wastes and the reviews where shocking so make sure you have a good look at who you go for if you do!! I get where your coming from, I am constantly thinking is this right, should I do this instead, that was the major deciding factor for me! Let me know if you do look into it more!! xx

  3. This is really interesting! I’m glad that the blog consultation went really well, and I’m interested to see what you come back with after taking on board all the advice Emma gave you 🙂

    1. I found it very interesting for sure, had been looking into it for a while before choosing Emma to work with, she’s a little gem! Hopefully I can make the changes productively. Some are instant and some will be long term but its given me a great direction for Mrs S! Would you ever consider something like this? xx

        1. Let me know if you ever do!! How everything else wise doing?! Hows the daily posting and the likes? Are you in summer yet? xx

    1. Oh goodness no pressure eh hahahaha! Thank you, nearly there! God the admin and back work to change things…. Not even funny. A full week off posting yet a ton of other stuff done. Hope you like it!! xxx

  4. What an exciting experience! I’ve always thought that similar consultations are a huge scam, but it looks like it’s well worth the money 🙂 You got me thinking now haha

    1. I thought this to and didn’t have high hopes! I wasn’t expecting a lot, maybe a page or two of general tips I could have found on Pinterest. In my head I was thinking sod it, lets just have a little look and see how it goes…. Delighted I did it! Some may be so it is good to check reviews, from a independent source NOT that persons page! I dug around quite a few and some reviews where quite shocking so i can fully understand your thinking on them. If you do go for one just be sure to do a little research 🙂 xxx

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I really enjoyed it, it was so much more than I was expecting so I was chuffed with that. I would recommend it to anyone at any stage of there blog career! If you do go for it would love to know how you got on! Have you looked at any consultation packages specifically? xx

  5. I loved reading this Hazel! I’ve been considering doing that same blog consultation but I’m not sure if I should since I’m not self hosted. It seems like they’re always meant more for self hosted blogs so I haven’t gone through with it yet. Your post definitely makes me want to do it once I do go self hosted though!

    1. Hey!! The same one with Emma? I would recommend her! I would say if you did do one a section of it would be prob a suggestion on moving to self hosting but I have no doubt a lot more of it would be really helpful! On the form if you fill it in and advise what your plans are or if you wanna go self hosting at a later date kinda thing that will help as then you’d be addressing it up front. Have you thought about going self hosted? x

      1. Yes, I’ve been following Emma for awhile and since I already love her blog I wanted to do her consultation. Your description makes it sound like it would be well worth it! I have wanted to go self hosted for a few months but then I started school and didn’t want to add that on top of everything else I need to get done!

        1. I hear ya!! You do need time for the self hosting, I won’t lie and tell you its easy peasy, its take a good bit of patience to!! You should so get in touch with Emma and see if she covers blogs like yours? That way you’ll know for sure! xx

Let me hear your thoughts!!
